During the last few years, fortunately, mental health and the importance of caring for it have gained a significant role in our society, especially among young and aware individuals eager to break previous stigmas and promote psychological well-being.
Undoubtedly, mental health is crucial for overall well-being and for evolving towards a world that genuinely cares about our needs. The ability to manage stress, engage positively with others, make decisions, and face life’s challenges while taking care of emotional and psychological aspects to achieve balance and a good quality of life is essential.
This year, we launched a Mental Health Prevention and Intervention Program (Fort Healthy Mind Initiatives) in Uganda, managed by two local psychologists and welcoming volunteers from various organizations.
The program’s main function is mental health prevention and intervention, through talks held in schools and different institutions, as well as individual and group discussions.
They have an office in Kitumba, near the volunteers’ residence, where a brief overview of the previous day’s activities and the plans for the week are provided.
They also organize talks to address different issues; for example, a workshop was conducted for girls who had to drop out of school due to unwanted pregnancies. They are assisted in becoming economically self-sufficient.
WHO CAN BE PART OF THIS PROJECT?
This volunteer program is ideal for individuals directly involved in psychology, social work, and social education. Volunteers will attend these sessions to learn, observe, and actively participate alongside the local team.
We are particularly excited to support projects with so much to offer, creating a more aware and compassionate society. At Cooperating Volunteers, we continue to collaborate with projects that prioritize the well-being of each individual, always alongside the best professionals at the destination, working hand in hand with a qualified team.
