TWO WORLDS, ONE SHARED VOLUNTEERING EXPERIENCE
Nepal is a country that is not understood, it is felt. A place where every day is a mix of intensity, learning, and deep connection. Within this small yet immense country, there are two destinations that perfectly represent that duality that transforms those who visit: the vibrant capital, Kathmandu, and the wild nature of Chitwan.
Two completely different settings, yet united by the same essence: the opportunity to live an authentic, close, and deeply human volunteering experience.
Sometimes Nepal is a destination that goes unnoticed, but when people choose it, they define it as one of the best experiences of their lives.
An authentic destination.

KATHMANDU: CHAOS AND SPIRITUALITY
Kathmandu is a city that makes an impact from the very first moment. Its streets, full of life, sounds, colors, and contrasts, may seem chaotic at first.
However, behind that apparent disorder there is a unique harmony that gradually reveals itself.
Here, projects are developed in an urban environment where the social reality is tangible.
Educational projects, child support, or community development allow participants to become directly involved in the daily life of the local population. The smiles of children in schools, conversations with teachers, the closeness with families… everything is part of an experience that goes far beyond the superficial.
But Kathmandu is not only about action: it is also about introspection. Places like Swayambhunath, known as the “monkey temple,” or Boudhanath, one of the largest stupas in the world, invite you to pause, observe, and connect with a spirituality that permeates the entire city. Among incense, prayer flags, and daily rituals, the volunteer finds spaces to reflect on their own experience.

CHITWAN: NATURE AS A TEACHER
Several hours from Kathmandu, the pace changes completely. In Chitwan, life moves to the rhythm of nature.
This region is known for being home to Chitwan National Park, declared a World Heritage Site, a sanctuary of biodiversity where rhinoceroses, elephants, crocodiles, and, if lucky, even the majestic Bengal tiger coexist.
Volunteering in Chitwan is closely linked to the local community and the natural environment. Here, projects are usually focused on education, sustainable development, and environmental awareness. The connection with the population is slower, deeper. Relationships are built over time, by sharing everyday moments, learning local customs, and understanding another way of life.
In this environment, every experience has a special value: from walking along trails surrounded by jungle to participating in community activities where cultural exchange is constant.
Chitwan teaches you to observe, to listen, and to respect the balance between human beings and nature.

TWO DESTINATIONS, ONE SHARED TRANSFORMATION
Living the volunteering experience in Kathmandu and Chitwan is experiencing two sides of Nepal that, together, offer a complete vision of the country. On one hand, urban intensity, fast learning, direct impact. On the other, calmness, connection with nature, and a slower integration into the community.
Both destinations share something essential: authenticity. Here there are no artificial experiences or ones designed for tourists. Everything is real, close, and, at times, challenging.
And it is precisely in that challenge where true transformation happens.
Volunteering in Nepal is not only about helping, but about learning. Learning to adapt, to listen, to understand other realities and, above all, to see the world through different eyes. Kathmandu and Chitwan are not just destinations: they are settings where each person writes a unique story, marked by personal growth and the encounter with what is essential.
Because, in the end, it is not just about the places you visit, but how those places change you. And Nepal, with its intensity and its calm, with its chaos and its nature, has a very special way of doing so.
At Cooperating Volunteers, we love recommending it as a destination.
