Zhanjiang Ocean conservation volunteer program – China

This conservation program is situated in the South China Sea on an island called Donghai, offering volunteers the opportunity to contribute to turtle care and learn about dolphins.

The primary goals of the dolphin conservation program are to raise awareness about dolphin protection in schools, assist the local center in establishing a dolphin museum, and participate in the reconstruction of the facility following damages caused by the annual typhoon.

The South China Sea is home to five turtle species. This program aims to support the breeding and care of all five of these species, which are:

  • Leatherback sea turtle
  • Loggerhead sea turtle
  • Hawksbill sea turtle
  • Green sea turtle
  • Olive ridley sea turtle

The center can house approximately 20 disabled turtles at any given time, which will be released into the ocean once they have recovered. Another nerby center is home to several healthy and fit turtles.

During specific times of the year, volunteers will have the opportunity to witness the hatching of turtle eggs. During this awe-inspiring experience, the newly hatched turtles are released directly into the ocean.

You will help maintain their habitat and participate in releasing animals back into their natural environment. Accommodation: Our accommodation is situated in a tranquil area of Donghai Island, which is found in the south-eastern part of the Zhanjiang urban area. This is the largest island in Guangdong, and the fifth biggest island in China.

The modest hostel provides all the basic amenities you’ll need during your stay on this unique and small island. Please be sure to bring your personal belongings for your stay.
