As a volunteer, your role is to guide the young people of eastern Ghana, assisting them in shaping a promising future in the world of sports. Sports, particularly football, holds immense interest among the Ghanaian population. Young athletes from Accra are often supported by their schools, families, and local clubs. Similarly, young individuals from more affluent regions receive financial backing, providing them with opportunities to advance in sports. Over time, these aspiring athletes may capture the attention of regional, national, and even international sports teams. However, these athletes face limited opportunities to compete, often having to abandon their sport at its peak due to resource constraints.
Our sports volunteer program aims to support underprivileged athletes by engaging volunteers in secondary schools in Koforidua. Your responsibilities will include organizing sports activities and delivering Physical Education lessons to children who are enthusiastic about learning and improving. This work involves both theoretical and practical coaching.
To participate in this project, you don’t need to be a professional athlete, coach, or physical education teacher. However, if you fall into any of these categories, we encourage your participation. What’s essential is a passion for sports and teaching. You will enjoy working alongside these children and teenagers, actively participating in various sporting activities.
It’s amazing how interested they get when they realise the enthusiasm of the volunteers. Your presence represents the biggest motivation for these future athletes to start practicing sports.
Availability: The sports program in Koforidua 2023 will start on 18 January and end on 17 December and will be closed for school holidays on the following dates (subject to change by the government): 12 to 18 April, 10 June to 25 July, 30 September to 9 October. Alternatively you can apply for the orphanage program at Koforidua.
The cost of transport from the program to the volunteer house is not included and will be borne by the volunteer. It is estimated to be between 2 to 4€ per day.
The program runs from Monday to Friday, about 3 hours a day. On weekends it may be that the training team plays matches, or that the volunteer attends tournaments where he/she also participates.
