This program takes place in various children’s homes and educational centers, catering to ages ranging from 2 or 3 years old to adolescence.
If the volunteer collaborates in an orphanage or children’s home, they should be aware that, due to the living conditions they have experienced, many of the children are very independent in their daily tasks. However, this does not mean they do not need or value external attention and assistance. The volunteer will help the children with their homework after they return from school, teach them English, and assist them with responsibilities such as cleaning spaces, cooking, or lending a hand in the ecological agriculture activities they undertake.
Additionally, they can play with them and organize various activities such as crafts, dances, songs, and even join in the daily yoga and meditation practices. Apart from these activities, the children will appreciate the quality time and affection the volunteer devotes to them. Providing a peaceful environment where they feel comfortable and safe is one of the best things one can offer them.
When volunteers join daycare centers, their main duties will involve caring for the children and introducing them to English and other basic knowledge such as hygiene, emotions, and psychomotricity. There is also time for games and more recreational activities such as dances, music, or various crafts.
Volunteers participating in primary or secondary education centers can assist teachers with subjects such as English, computer science, physical education, and any discipline in which the volunteer has expertise. In addition to classes, the volunteer will spend time with them during breaks and can interact with the students in a more relaxed manner, promoting cultural exchange and knowledge of their world.
