In the elephant conservation volunteering programme, you will be working with ‘mahouts’, which is the name given to traditional elephant keepers. You’ll get to learn everything about elephants as you wash them, ride them and visit an elephant nursery, hospital and museum. This is the true land of the elephants!
You’ll have the opportunity to learn about the centuries-old lifestyle and culture of the mahouts. You’ll also learn about the biodiversity of their protected forest.
Our vets and biologists will take you on a tour of their world, explaining the field and research work in Laos and its surrounding areas. By visiting the Elephant Hospital in Laos, you’ll gain a great insight into the conservation work done by the NGO ElefantAsia.
