India is home to 50-60% of the world’s wild Asian elephants and around 20% of its domesticated elephants. As such, the survival of this species is of great importance.
This country has a long history in the domestication of elephants, which have played a role in many aspects of Indian life. One such aspect, which still applies nowadays, is transport. These elephants, however, are respected and well looked after by their keepers.
The volunteer will have the opportunity to help care for these elephants, including feeding them and bathing them. They will also carry out other daily activities that seek to ensure the wellbeing of these animals.
NOTE: This program runs for three hours in the afternoon from Monday to Friday. There is an additional cost of €90 per week which includes daily transport to the program site and a donation to the project, which goes towards the care of the animals. Working hours: 3 hours a day from Monday to Friday.
