¿Cómo es la sociedad panameña en un voluntariado internacional?

Hoy me han surgido algunas preguntas: cómo es la sociedad panameña, qué costumbres tiene, etc. Por eso, haremos un pequeño recorrido por su cultura y su folclore. Lo que sí que sé es que su gran contraste entre la vida rural y la ciudad es conocido por todos: playas tropicales, selva salvaje y ciudades cosmopolitas. Sin embargo, me pregunto qué necesitaría saber si quisiera hacer un voluntariado internacional en Panamá.

Lo que necesitas saber en un voluntariado en Panamá

  • ‘Ni muy mucho, ni muy poco’: Los panameños le dan mucha importancia a transmitir una imagen de pulcritud e higiene. La ropa de diario no puede ser demasiado informal.
  • ‘Sí, lo hago ahorita’, ‘ahora mismo voy para allá’, ‘termino en cinco’…: Como muchos países y sociedades del Centro y Sur de América, no hay ese rigor por la puntualidad en su día a día (¿os habíais dado cuenta?), a excepción de situaciones importantes. Son personas que no temen alargar o dejar fluir el tiempo en reuniones sociales con amigos o momentos alrededor de la mesa. Su ‘ahorita’ es más bien un ‘en un rato’. ¿Lo mejor de todo? No se estresan por llegar tarde, algo tan arraigado en la sociedad occidental. Haciendo un voluntariado internacional seguramente vivirás ese contraste entre tu forma de hacer (algo más estresada) y su forma (más bien tranquila).
  • ¿Qué les gusta comer? ¿Qué debes comer?: Cuidado porque a los panameños les gusta desayunar muy completo, desde un buen bistec, hígado, etc.  Otra cosa que les gusta mucho es el arroz, mejor dicho ¡aman el arroz! Acompañan casi todas las comidas con arroz.
  • ¿Qué música bailan? ¿Qué música bailarás?: La música tiene influencias africanas y españolas. Esta influencia empezó a llegar  en el siglo XVI. La música folclórica, un tipo de música que surgió de la época de la nueva España (mediados s. XIX), se muestra mediante la mejorana y la décima.  Encontramos el tamborcito como uno de los instrumentos más importantes por su amplio uso. Popular en los festivales y en el carnaval, este instrumento es parte de la historia y el folclore del país. La tuna, aunque un estilo de música diferente, también es una danza popular dentro de los carnavales. El Punto es otro de los estilos típicos, que se distancia del mencionado por qué en este caso, este se baila en parejas. En la actualidad, también tienen gran incidencia la salsa y el reggae. Todos estos estilos musicales podrás disfrutarlos durante tu voluntariado en Panamá.
  • ¿Cómo festejan? ¡Aprende a festejar!: Cuando están más contentos de lo normal, cuando tienen algo que celebrar, sea lo que sea, va acompañado de pirotecnia, fuegos artificiales y música. Quieren compartir su alegría, y llevarla en un “relativo” silencio no es posible. Forma parte de su ADN compartir su felicidad. Una fiesta llena de tradición es la celebración del fin de año. Es costumbre entre los panameños que después de celebrar el año nuevo, ese momento de la noche donde se dice adiós a un año y se saluda al que viene, se desplazan a las playas para darse un baño. Este baño tiene como objeto desprenderse de todo lo viejo gracias al agua salada del mar. De esta manera, se dirigen a las playas para renovarse y estar más dispuestos al nuevo año
  • ¿Taxi o tour?: Los panameños tienen sus rutas fijadas. En este caso si paramos a un taxi necesitamos recordar que lo primero a hacer es preguntar si pasa por el sitio a donde nos interesa ir. Si nos olvidamos de este paso y subimos, viviremos toda una experiencia: un tour. El taxista irá donde tuviese planeado, esto te permitirá conocer hasta lo que no sabías ni que existía, eso sí, si vas mal de tiempo ¡no olvides preguntar antes!

Voluntariado en Centroamérica

Ya me imagino mi primer día en Panamá dispuesta a todo en mi estancia en el programa de enseñanza en el voluntariado en Sudamérica… Y aún sabiéndolo, olvidadiza por la emoción, ¡me subo al taxi sin antes preguntar! En mi primera mañana desayuno un filete enorme con arroz y sin darme cuenta, llego tarde. Al salir de la tarea del programa, me llevan a un local a bailar y al anochecer me tiran al mar diciéndome: ¡renuévate! Todas estas sensaciones podrás experimentarlas durante un voluntariado internacional en Panamá.
