Many of you enjoy traveling during the winter or have availability at this time of year. Today, we’re sharing some destinations where you can have an unforgettable volunteer experience while exploring and learning about the culture of another country.
At Cooperating Volunteers, we have several destinations that are perfect these winter months.
● ZANZIBAR
One of our top destinations, welcoming participants year-round for their volunteer experience. This Tanzanian archipelago, located off Africa’s eastern coast, offers many activities to enjoy during your stay.
One of the best times to visit Zanzibar is the dry season, from December to February, with warm, dry, and sunny weather, pleasant temperatures, and low humidity.
Temperatures range between 28-32 °C, with low humidity and mostly sunny skies—perfect for enjoying the sea.
In Zanzibar, you can experience its idyllic white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, water activities, and stunning natural scenery.
You can find another blog post with all the must-do activities in Zanzibar.
Additionally, we offer various programs here, including child care, women’s empowerment, community and environmental work, teaching, and medical assistance. This makes it the perfect combination to make the most of your free time during this experience.
A purposeful trip that will also take you away from the cold winter days.
● CAMBODIA
Cambodia is another great winter destination, as the best time to visit is from November to February, during the dry and cool season. Located in Southeast Asia, Cambodia offers temples, beaches, and plenty of outdoor activities.
Between November and February, the climate is pleasant, with temperatures between 20-30 °C and low humidity. It’s the perfect time to visit outdoor spots like Angkor Wat temples or Sihanoukville beaches, go cycling, trekking, and visit rural villages. It’s peak season, so booking accommodation and excursions in advance is recommended.
Our volunteer programs in Cambodia include teaching, Spanish-language teaching, medical care, child care, caring for children with disabilities, and construction and painting.
This experience allows you to explore a charming country with so much to discover and accomplish.
● MEXICO
Mexico is a country with diverse climates, so the best time to visit depends on the region. Generally, though, the best months to travel to Mexico are from November to April, when the climate is dry and pleasant in most areas.
These months are ideal for avoiding rainy weather, and the top destinations include Riviera Maya (Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum), Mexico City, Oaxaca, Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, and Baja California.
Our volunteer programs are located in the Protected Natural Area of San Juan Bautista Tabi and Anexa Sacnicté, part of the Puuc route and Yucatán’s most important biocultural corridor, with expeditions starting in Cancún, Quintana Roo.
In Yucatán, from November to March, the weather is pleasant, without overwhelming heat and with lower humidity. February and March are ideal as they avoid December’s crowds and the start of the rainy season.
In Mexico, our programs include Maya Jungle agriculture and fruit production, wildlife monitoring, bioconstruction, and on the Caribbean Coast, turtle protection and environmental management.
Traveling to this destination immerses you in its culture, cuisine, and vibrant history.
● MOROCCO
Winter in Morocco (December to February) is mild on the coast and in the south, though cooler in mountainous areas and the desert, especially at night. This is a great time to visit Morocco if you’re interested in exploring imperial cities and coastal areas without the intense summer heat. Alternatively, you can explore cooler areas like the Atlas Mountains for winter sports like skiing.
Surfing is popular along the coast, and many visitors come for the ideal surfing weather.
At Cooperating Volunteers, our project during this time is located in Tozouka, where we run a teaching program in various primary school classes.
If your trip coincides with school holidays, there are additional activities such as school painting and decoration, and teaching Spanish, English, or French.
It’s a destination where you can uncover the country’s hidden wonders while embarking on a purposeful journey.
● INDIA
The best time to visit India depends greatly on the regions you plan to explore, as the climate varies significantly across the north, south, mountains, and coasts. However, generally, the best time to visit most regions of India is during the dry season from November to March.
During these months, the weather is cooler and drier in most parts, making it the ideal time to explore both north and south. Temperatures are generally pleasant, especially in northern
cities like Delhi, Agra, and Rajasthan. In the south, the weather is warm but not overwhelming.
Recommended activities include visiting places like the Taj Mahal (Agra), Delhi, Jaipur, and Rajasthan regions. Temperatures are comfortable for sightseeing, and the weather is ideal for excursions.
This is the most popular season, so prices may be higher, and tourist destinations are busier, especially around Christmas and New Year.
Our volunteer programs in India are based in and around Jaipur, where you can participate in orphanage, teaching, women’s empowerment, sports, and medical programs.
India, the land of colors and vibrant culture, will make your experience unforgettable.
