Have you ever wanted to visit Thailand during a volunteer trip to Asia, whether it’s for its countless temples, its cuisine, or to discover its great biodiversity of both fauna and flora? We give you one more reason to explore this extraordinary Asian region: the incredible Phang Nga Bay. This bay is located southwest of the country in the Andaman Sea, it is full of islands, one of the most well-known being Phuket. But it has many more!! The name of most of the islands starts with “koh,” as this word in Thai means island.
Volunteering in Thailand to see its islands
We find many islands perfect for relaxing, sunbathing, snorkeling, taking a canoe or jet ski ride. One of them is the famous island of Phuket. This island is the largest in Thailand and the one with the highest number of tourists, it also has spectacular beaches and is very well connected to the mainland, as it has an airport. We also find the islands Koh Phi Phi Don and Koh Lipe, with white sandy beaches and crystal-clear water, moreover, most of its beaches are surrounded by lush green vegetation.
On the other side of the peninsula in the Gulf of Thailand, we also find paradise islands. If you are looking for music and a party atmosphere Koh Samui island is ideal, as it becomes a big party at sunset. On the other hand, Koh Tao island is one of the most well-known among divers due to the great diversity of aquatic species, on its beaches, hawksbill and green turtles reproduce, therefore, if you are lucky during your stay, you can appreciate these reptiles up close.
We also find countless small islands, many of them are located in Phang Nga Bay, a short distance from Phuket. Being close by, this large island is a good starting point for visiting the islands and islets of the bay, which are sure to leave you impressed. One of these tiny islands formed by limestone rocks is Ko Tapu, this island is one of the most famous, it is about 20 meters high and the base is narrower than the highest part of the island, for this reason, the name of this island in Thai means “nail” or “spike.” It is famous because it is one of the settings for the James Bond movie “The Man with the Golden Gun.” For this reason, this tiny island and Khao Phing Kan which is the closest island to it, are known as the James Bond island.
The Similan archipelago consists of 11 islands. Although not all of them are accessible to tourists, we find three islands that are protected and their entry is prohibited because it is the spawning ground for many turtles. The two most visited islands in this archipelago are Similan Island and Miang Island, both of which have movie-like beaches with transparent waters and fine white sand. Moreover, it is a perfect place for snorkeling and observing the different species of fish that inhabit it.
Although there are countless beautiful islands to visit during your volunteer trip to Thailand, we have only mentioned a few, dare to venture into this natural wonder and discover them for yourself. We’re waiting for you!!
