This medical and healthcare volunteering programme seeks to improve the standard of first aid and caregiving in rural communities in Malawi.
The programme places a strong emphasis on education, raising awareness and the provision of medical care.
Activities:
- Volunteers can help by maintaining the home.
- Treating wounds (basic dressing)
- Raising awareness of HIV/AIDS
- Collaborating with a rural community hospital (this job is only for volunteers with previous medical experience, professional doctors or medicine students, as the hospital offers primary medical care and treatment).
- Less experienced medicine students will have the opportunity to assist local doctors or nurses and help them with administrative tasks.
- Volunteers will help to raise awareness of the dangers of malaria, and by doing so, promote its prevention.
- They will also stress the importance of health and nutrition, helping us with our feeding model.
- They will also be tasked with helping local caregivers to improve their teaching and English skills.
Minimum stay: 4 weeks.
NOTE: the medical volunteering programme has an additional cost of €100. This money will go towards the running of the hospital.
Volunteers must submit their CV and academic record in English.
IMPORTANT: Volunteers who work on the medical volunteering programme will need to take work clothes (scrubs), footwear and material routinely used in the healthcare area.
